Hosting a Party? 5 Things Not to Forget - By: mishaanatolia

You’re set to host a party – a family reunion, a special birthday, or a bridal or baby shower – and you want to make it an event that everyone remembers. No matter the size of the event, getting ready for the party is all about organization and planning ahead. Here are 5 things not to forget when you’re hosting a party.

- Organize the guest list: you’ll want to make sure you have a complete and thorough guest list as early as possible. Share it with other family members and friends to make sure you don’t leave anyone off. Have notations on your list for when people RSVP and how many people will be attending the party.

- Establish your menu: once you’ve picked your party theme, you’ll want to start planning the menu. Choose items that will accommodate all tastes and preferences. Choose vibrant colors in your fruits and vegetables to set off your table. Plan an appetizer course or passed hors d’oeuvres to lead into a salad, a meat specialty dish, side dishes, and leading into the dessert. If it’s a birthday party or a shower of some sorts, you can have the dessert be the cake.

- Beverages for all: you’ll want several beverage choices to satisfy all of your guests. Have some juices or fruit soda in case there are kids at your party. For the adults, have a selection of sodas and water, as well as wine, beer, and mixed drinks. You can offer two separate punches –alcoholic and non-alcoholic – to accompany the theme of your party. Make sure you plan to have lots of cups and ice so no one goes thirsty.

- Music playlist: depending on the theme of the party, or what kind of crowd you’re expecting, you’ll want to plan out your music playlist. Will you want cocktail music, holiday tunes, or something people can dance to? You don’t need to pay a lot of money to a DJ, just program the music ahead of time and burn it onto CDs that can play in the background. Music adds a magical effect to any party, so make sure you take the time to get your music ready.

- Clean: if you’re hosting the party at your house or someone else’s, make sure the place is thoroughly cleaned before the event starts. If you’re using a banquet hall or a hotel, they should ensure the space is cleaned prior to your party. Make sure the bathrooms have enough toilet paper, soap, and hand towels and be sure you have plenty of trash bags to gather used plates, cups, or gift wrapping.
