Horse piñata is easy to make! - By: Marina Janakievska

Playing different games at home-parties is not something unusual. It is ok to socialize and communicate but games make this process to go smoothly and much more spontaneously.
In the line of the games most often applied at the parties is definitely the horse piñata. Actually, this is not precisely in the line of horse games, it can be played utilizing homemade donkey, pig, butterfly – all types of animals.

Interesting about the horse piñata is that it brings rodeo spirit to the party and people, mostly young ones, are taken away by the competitive spirit, as they take turns to break the piñata and release the goods.

Before you start with these horse games, there are some things that you need to supply. You will need: two balloons - one large and overall and other small and round; five empty toilet paper rolls; old newspapers; bowl of liquid starch; thin brown paper; black yarn; wire – 12-inch; masking paper; permanent marker; glue; scissors and needle.

The big oval balloon will be the body of the horse. Inflate it and tape the empty toilet paper rolls to its underside. The rolls will be legs so you can trim them before putting them on the balloon, to be sure that they are same size. Shorten them if they still appear too long after attaching.

For the neck, use the last roll. Determine the right size and tape it onto one upper end of the horse.

The small round balloon will be the head of the horse, so inflate it to be large enough for that function and tape it atop the neck. Use the masking tape to make ears and stuck them on the head.
Start widening the neck of the horse. Do that adding strips of tape, starting from the head to the body. Do not worry if it is not smooth, you will firm it up later, using papier-mache.

Next step is covering the whole horse with strips on newspaper. Strips should be narrow, about six inches long. The procedure is the following. Dip a strip into liquid starch and pull it through two fingers, to remove excess liquid, and lay it across the balloon. The procedure should be repeated with every strip, combining them in a crisscross pattern, until the entire horse is covered. Allow it to dry and do the whole procedure again. Whole piñata should be covered like that three times, so be sure that you have enough newspapers.

At the same manner, cover the whole piñata with brown tissue paper tore into strips.

With the marker, draw the face of the horse.

Use the yarn, cut into short lengths, for creating tail and mane, and glue it on the proper places.

Pop the balloon used for the body into the top and cut a small hole, big enough to put the candies.

Make additional two holes at the base of the neck, 3 inches apart, and use a piece of wire, run it through the holes and make a loop. Use this loop for attaching a rope, when hanging the piñata.
