Window shades are types of covering for your home. These are usually attached to the internal window. It is more of a general term that includes almost every type of window covering like roman shades, shutters, vertical and horizontal blinds and roller shades. The function of this is to blind the person looking at the window or to lessen the sunlight coming in the room. Window shades have different effects. They can shut out heat from outside, at least the unwanted ones, and they can keep the room warm when it is cold outside. Whether blocking the heat or cold, both types reduce light that goes into the room, depending on the kind and design of the shade.

Some widow shades are made with thin strips of wood, fabric, metal or plastic. That which is made of metal is often used outside the house. This serves as a protection to houses or businesses against bad weather and temperature, people looking from outside, fire, especially theft. These window shades can be rolled up and down so it may also be called roller shades. They are operated by a machine as they may be too heavy to be operated by hand.

A popular kind of window shades is the horizontals, which also has several kinds – the traditional mini blinds, lite-less mini blinds, 2'' metal venetian blinds, 2'' wood venetian blinds, etc.

It has a wider slat, composed of 8-gauge for stronger and resilient against bending, providing better closure when shut and better visibility when opened. It can have a child proof tassel and its tilting and lifting operations can be motorized.

The two-inch wood venetian blind, made from American Bass Wood, improves the aesthetics of the room because of the natural look of the wood. It can be designed with a variety of wood stains and paint finishes. It also has wider slats providing better closure when shut and better visibility when opened.
