Loan modification scams are showing up all over the place as the number of homeowners looking for and/or needing modification assistance. There are too many homeowners and not enough legitimate modification assistance agencies to handle them, so these homeowners are put on a waiting list, when they need help right now.

There are some homeowners that are looking for assistance in getting a modified loan they will turn to anyone who offers to help them, whether they are a legitimate company or not, which is unfortunate. For every legitimate loan mod lender there is a modified loan scam out there. Those loan modification scams ask for huge amounts of money up front to help the homeowner become free of their mortgage problems, to even set up workshops, again which cost, to help the homeowner. It is important that all homeowners are aware that there are scams out there.

The loan modification scams either do part of the work or none of the work. Their goal is to get a certain amount of money up front and maybe do a little of the work and then ask for more money later to keep working on the case, if they even do any work on it at all.

There have been way too many homeowners who have fallen prey to the loan modification scam, and the FBI is looking into these companies. Just like anything else it is important for a homeowner to check with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) before signing anything or giving money to loan modification assistance agencies.

When there are financial difficulties, homeowners will do whatever they can to keep their family together and stay in their home. Unfortunately, homeowners may turn to the wrong modified loan assistance programs for help, ending up hurting themselves and their families even worse. It is important when making sure you know what paperwork needs to be completed, what paperwork is need to accompany the application, staying informed of their financial status and where they are in the modified loan process, it is important to research the company you will be using. So instead of making an already difficult situation even harder, do your homework ahead of time.
