Home Vegetable Garden - The Rewards of Growing One - By: Justin Davis

We live in a generation where everything needs to be done quickly. People do not have the luxury of time to smell the roses and enjoy the most important things in life. Most of us wake up early, fix a quick breakfast or just gobble up a cup of instant coffee, head to work, grab lunch at the nearest fast food, go home late at night feeling exhausted and prepare an instant meal. Then we watch tv then go to bed. That is the common lifestyle of people today. Because of this, people get so depressed and not happy with their life even with all the achievements they have accomplished in their career and in spite of the amount of wealth they have amassed.

The secret to happiness and longevity is to take life slowly and positively. To provide for the family's needs and wants, man has to work. But nowadays, people have become workaholics that they have neglected one important aspect in life: health. Stress is one of the silent killers of humans these days. But how do we deal with this? It's simple. Don't rush things, take a deep breath and have fun. Taking a hobby like planting or painting is a great idea. You are not only taking the time to meditate but you are also making the world a better place.

Making a vegetable garden is not actually hard and it does not require a big amount of money. Patience, perseverance and diligence are the key to grow a healthy garden. You can start by cultivating a small plot right at your backyard. But first, choose which plant you want to grow. It would be best if you choose a tomato since they are not that hard to maintain and, although these fruits still require attention, it will be worth all your efforts when you see those big, round, red tomatoes grow.

You should give room for each seed to grow when planting tomatoes. Placing a small fan in your ceiling to help the fruits develop stronger stems is also recommended. You do not have to let the fan operate twenty four hours a day. You can use it thrice every week for 5 - 10 minutes each time. Regularly water your garden on a daily basis, especially when they are still growing because this is the time when they need a lot of moisture.

This is what summer is all about, the taste of a tomato fresh from the garden. The full flavor and juicy goodness of a home grown tomato is wonderful and it is so rewarding when you grow the produce yourself! More and more people are planting gardens and growing their own produce. As the trend turns toward gardening, the interest in organic gardening is increasing.
So how do you grow an organic tomato - or any type of organic plant? Well, first of all you need to understand what it means to be organic. An organic vegetable is one that is free from chemicals such as pesticides and herbicides. These chemicals have traditionally been used by farmers and gardeners to help keep the plants free from insects and disease. However, research has shown that many of these chemicals linger in the food and are ingested by us as we eat it. The effects of chemicals in our bodies can be harmful to our health so it is best if we do all we can to eliminate them from our diet. That is why organic produce is so beneficial and why it is growing in popularity.
To grow a truly organic vegetable you need to start with organic seeds. You can find them at some garden centers or online retailers. Many times it is the smaller garden centers that will carry them as they are more prone to catering to the local customer than the larger chain stores. If you can't find organic seeds, you can still grow organic vegetables. Just make sure you keep them chemical free during the growing process. You can then harvest seeds from your crop so you have organic seeds for next year!
