Reducing your carbon footprint is something that all of us should be giving a lot of consideration too – and one way we can do this is by using less energy. And one of the best and most efficient ways to do that? Switching to renewable sources.

Fossil fuels are dying out. Literally they are running out and this is what's creating the energy crisis which you may have read about in the news. At the same time though even without the dwindling supply of oil and coal, this type of energy is rapidly going out of fashion as we learn that it is having such devastating effects on the planet. Every time you use your light switch at the moment, it causes a factory somewhere to burn more fossil fuels. This in turn means that fumes known as 'greenhouse gasses' are released into the atmosphere. These greenhouse gasses then have the impact of trapping some of the sun's heat in the atmosphere so it can't escape. It can get in but it can't leave and that ensures that the overall temperature of the planet is steadily climbing.

You hear a lot about how increasing the temperature of our planet is going to make it uninhabitable for our children, and particularly about how it will lead to the melting of the ice caps and subsequently flooring. However it's also causing a lot of damage right now and is leading to different climates the world over which is killing off whole species of animals and causing natural disasters. As the heat of the planet has increased so has the acidity level in the oceans – killing off our coral reefs which are the only organic structures visible from space and home to millions of species of marine life.

So if you can end your dependency on fossil fuels then you'll be stepping into a brighter future and helping to save the planet. It's shocking really that we are still so primitive as to be burning things in the ground for energy.

This is especially shocking when we have the most abundant source of energy you could ever need right in our own sky. The rest of nature has learned to live off of solar energy, so surely we can harness it to power our own creations? This is where home solar power systems are such an obvious and useful step to take that can greatly help you to reduce your carbon footprint, while at the same time helping you to save huge amounts of money in your energy bill. Home solar power systems allow you to tap into a limitless and completely free source of energy and no one can charge you for that.

There are two types of home solar power system however and these are solar thermal panels and photovoltaic solar panels. The former work on heat energy by heating up small tubes of water in order to act as heat pumps while the latter use the light energy using the light to cause chemical reactions and create a current that can be used to power your household appliances once it's been transformed.
