Acne is one of the common types of skin disorders observed generally in teenagers at the onset of puberty and continues till they cross 25. Besides the teens, this disorder can affect anybody regardless of age and sex. Women are the worst sufferers because their hormonal levels undergo frequent fluctuations disturbing the normal balance at different stages of life. Acne occurs due to the clogging of the sebaceous oil glands and appears in the form of nodules, blisters, pimples, white heads and black heads. Face is mostly affected by acne including neck, chest, back, shoulders and sometimes in the upper arms. Acne is not a serious disorder but a severe outbreak often spoils the beauty of the face leaving permanent scars and lesions on the skin.

Symptoms

Acne can be recognized by

1. Formation of blisters and nodules, which are often painful.
2. Appearance of blackheads and whiteheads.
3. Bacterial infection causing puss.

Causes

In adolescents, over production of sebum from the enlarged sebaceous glands due to the over functioning of the hormones result in the formation of acne. Other triggering factors are -

1. Irregular eating habits.
2. Eating too much of starchy and oily foods.
3. Constipation or irregular toilet habits.

Home Remedies for Acne

Following the simple home remedies on a regular basis produces wondrous results in curing acne and restores the glow of the skin at the same time.

1. Application of a paste of orange peels is effective in treating acne.

2. Drinking wheat grass juice daily also cures acne.

3. Application of a paste of fresh fenugreek leaves on the affected parts and leaving it overnight produces excellent results. This must be washed off with warm water next morning.

4. A paste of roasted and powdered pomegranate seeds if applied produces very good results in this treatment.

5. A paste of cinnamon powder and honey is also a good home remedy for acne. This must be applied on the face and kept overnight and washed off next morning.

6. Applying Aloe Vera gel on the affected areas is also a beneficial treatment for acne.

7. A mixture of yoghurt and oatmeal can be applied to cure acne. The paste is allowed to dry and then washed off with lukewarm water.

8. One can apply a paste of gram flour and pre boiled milk as a daily skin wash.

9. Application of Tea tree oil is also effective in treating acne.

10. Rubbing few rinds of watermelon on the affected areas also produces beneficial results.

11. Blended cucumber is equally helpful in reducing the acne problems.

12. Rubbing raw garlic is one of the best home remedies in treating acne.

13. A mixture of a teaspoonful of coriander juice with little turmeric helps in curing blackheads and pimples. One can use Mint juice as an alternative.
