Home Database Courses Simplified - By: Jason Kendall

What kind of things do you expect the best Microsoft certified training providers to offer a student in the United Kingdom at present? Patently, the ultimate in Microsoft authorised training routes, supplying a range of courses to take you into different areas of the IT industry. Perhaps you'd like to have a discussion on the sort of careers available to you after you've completed your training, and the type of individual that work could suit. Lots of people feel happier if they can be advised on what would be best for them. Make sure your training is matched to your ability level and skill set. The best companies will ensure that your training track is purpose built for the status you wish to achieve.

Looking at the myriad of choice out there, there's no surprise that the majority of career changers balk at what job they should even pursue. Reading a list of IT job-titles is next to useless. Most of us don't even know what our good friends do at work - so we have no hope of understanding the ins and outs of a new IT role. Achieving the right answer really only appears from a meticulous analysis across many changing key points:

* What nature of individual you reckon you are - the tasks that you really enjoy, and conversely - what don't you like doing.

* Are you looking to reach a closely held dream - for example, working for yourself in the near future?

* Where is the salary on a scale of importance - is it the most important thing, or is enjoying your job further up on the priority-scale?

* Because there are so many areas to train for in IT - it's wise to pick up some background information on what separates them.

* Having a serious look into the effort, commitment and time that you can put aside.

When all is said and done, the best way of investigating all this is from a good talk with an experienced advisor who has enough background to give you the information required.

Watch out that all qualifications you're considering doing are commercially relevant and are the most recent versions. The 'in-house' certifications provided by many companies are usually worthless. From the viewpoint of an employer, only the big-boys like Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA or Adobe (as an example) will get you into the interview seat. Nothing else hits the mark.

Most training companies only provide basic 9am till 6pm support (maybe a little earlier or later on certain days); very few go late in the evening or at weekends. Avoid those companies who use messaging services 'out-of-hours' - where you'll get called back during typical office hours. This is useless when you're stuck and could do with an answer during your scheduled study period.

Keep your eyes open for study programmes that utilise many support facilities active in different time-zones. These should be integrated to provide a single interface together with access round-the-clock, when it's convenient for you, without any problems. Don't compromise with the quality of your support. The majority of trainees that drop-out or fail, would have had a different experience if they'd got the right support package in the first place.

Don't get hung-up, as can often be the case, on the accreditation program. Training for training's sake is generally pointless; you're training to become commercially employable. You need to remain focused on where you want to go. You may train for one year and then end up doing the actual job for 10-20 years. Ensure you avoid the fatal error of finding what seems like a very 'interesting' program only to waste your life away with a job you don't like!

Spend some time thinking about what you want to earn and how ambitious you are. This will influence which precise accreditations will be expected and what you can expect to give industry in return. It's worth seeking help from someone who knows the commercial realities of the market you're considering, and who can offer 'A typical day in the life of' synopsis of the job being considered. All of these things are essential as you'll need to know if you're going down the right road.
