Holiday Season Foods Can Be Tricky - By: Ethan P Kalvin

Most everyone should know that the holidays are not the idea time to try to diet simply because of all the temptations that always persuade you to start at a later date, so with this in mind here is a sampling of the foods you might want to steer clear of this holiday season. Your health will stay healthier by picking replacement items for these trouble foods. The desire will be for these foods that you really do enjoy, especially around the holidays, when it seems nothing should be off limits, if your are listening to your taste buds.

Who hasn't indulged in the holiday time honored tradition of eggnog. Just the very name should suggest that it is very high in calories and brands such as Organic Valley Eggnog will give you more than a generous portion of fat and calories through the holidays. Whole milk is mostly the reason for the high fat and calorie content and in reality it has more calories than the infamous McDonald's cheeseburger. You should be able to enjoy eggnog, especially during the holidays and Bolthouse Farms Holiday Eggnog is just the eggnog to try and still stay much closer to your diet limits and it is great tasting as well. Bolthouse Farms Holiday Eggnog boasts great flavor and has less than half the calories, less fat and sugar than the Organic Valley's version.

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season has everyone out and about and many Starbucks fans enjoy the Peppermint Mocha especially around this time of the year. However, if you know what you are drinking to get the tingly feeling, the tingly filling might just fizzle out while the calories move in. Why not replace this holiday favorite with a new alternative favorite that is very diet friendly such as a Cappuccino and add the couple peppermint syrup pumps to get the same tingle, but without worrying about the extra calories and fat count that Starbucks offers and it is actually cheaper than the name brand so you can buy yourself an extra gift for good conduct and self discipline.

What would all the holidays be without the taste, smell and color of candy? Holiday sweets and treats shaped like whatever character you like can be not such a great bargain when you consider the calories that make the bargain a no bargain. Reese's Peanut Butter fans really enjoy the Snowman holiday candy and no one would argue that it is very yummy, but with a whopping 68g of sugar and 44g of fat, can you really afford to indulge for health's sake. A better and equally tasty choice would be the Reese's Peanut Butter Tree. It is smaller in size but equal in flavor and contains much less calories (170) than the snowman (760 calories). This allows you much more room to maneuver and room for more than one at a time.

By far it is very important to make sure that you are paying careful attention to everything that you are eating and drinking during the holiday season. It is a time where even the skinniest of folk tend to put on quite a few pounds and those who are already overweight tend to over indulge even further. You don't have to fore go everything yummy to keep your weight down during the holiday season. You just have to pick and choose more wisely.
