While it's typically advisable to delegate many responsibilities, you should still be the hardest working person in your company. Optimally, a leader leads by example; hence, you have to work very hard in the business if you want your workers to do the same. If, for example, you like all of your employees to come to work consistently and work extended hours, it won't help much if you take off a couple of days every week. If you would like promote excitement and loyalty in your employees, you must display these traits yourself.

If you aspire to be effective at small business leadership and provide a good example, you have to be an expert at solving problems. This is one of the determining characteristics of a good leader, and it's something you can get better at if you put your mind to it. The majority of individuals give up before they succeed and when they run into a problem they conclude that it's an impossible task. As a leader, you must be ingenious and determined to find a Plan B when Plan A does not work out. A good leader instills in his followers the drive to work on problems until a workable solution is identified. The more you can do this yourself, the more your people will be inclined to do exactly the same.

As a small business owner, you shouldn't ever ignore the importance of providing strong leadership for your organization. Since the business belongs to you, the buck stops with you when there are difficulties, and you need to be willing to accept complete responsibility. This includes forming the kind of environment that helps your business achieve its goals.
