A Home Theater System is designed to playback film sound tracks in the home with the goal of reproducing the original director’s intended presentation as in a full sized theater. While most basic home theater systems will use multiple speakers spread around the listening room to recreate the multi-channel aspect of a modern film soundtrack this may not recreate the theater experience. Film sound tracks have historically had One as in mono, Two as in Stereo, or Three audio channels which were used in early 1970s action movies. The third channel set in the rear of the theater and was used for the Original Star Wars.

Modern film sound uses Five or Six or Seven channels of sound with the addition of a center screen ‘Voice’ or center channel speaker to complement the front stereo left right speakers and the rear channel surround speakers used for envelopment or special effects. Both theaters and Home Theaters use one or more subwoofers to reproduce deep bass.

Film making is both a science and an art that has fixed goals. Number one priority is picture quality followed by dialog intelligibility and then clarity of the emotional music part of the soundtrack. Only the finest luxury home theater systems accomplish the absolute clarity and dynamic range required which allows the full understanding of the actor’s voice, inflection and musical emotional cues. There are lots of home theater systems available in the market but very few companies meet the quality of the pictures and sound. If you want to buy a perfect home theater music system you have to be concern about the technology that works behind the home theater system.

Many affordable entry level home theater systems may play loudly but only high performance home theater systems are capable of an accurate presentation of the original soundtrack. One’s level of interest in film art should determine the performance level required, from basic to Prestige Home Theater.
