High Blood Pressure – The Causes And Manifestations - By: Abdullah Salim

The society that we live in has a very vague notion about the importance of controlling high blood pressure. Its importance is undermined by the excessive highlighting of commercialized diseases pushing the importance of this silent killer in the back of the viewer’s mind. Thus, the onslaught of this disease is silent, could possibly be deadly in some cases and in others cases, limits the patient’s activities; forcing them to live a life of extreme caution against strenuous exercise and careful monitoring of their daily acts. Blood pressure if not discovered in time, could be potentially dangerous and thus one should be very careful against this health issue.

Blood pressure in general terms is the pressure with which the heart pumps blood to different parts of the body. Our bodies take in nutrients that it requires for its working in the form of foods and liquids. It also takes in oxygen by the process of inhaling the gas through respiration. Both of these acts are performed by the blood vessels. The blood pressure can be measured using a blood pressure cuff. The cuff determines systolic pressure when the heart contracts as well as the diastolic pressure, when the heart relaxes. The amount of pressure that exists is measured by the blood pressure cuff as millimeters of Mercury or mmMg. The blood pressure is considered normal at 120 systolic and 80 diastolic.

The blood vessels present in our bodies are flexible to accommodate the needs of our body. These vessels expand when the body is in need for more blood. This is when we are running and our lungs, muscles and other organs need more oxygen and the body is utilizing the oxygen taken in at a higher rate than normal. This act will make the heart beat faster to accommodate the greater need of oxygen required by the body and a greater volume of blood will pass through the vessels.

These vessels lose their flexibility when they become hard or when there is extra material obstructing their path. This causes the vessels to reduce in diameter causing the heart to pump harder and this in turn increases the blood pressure. This additional pressure can be detrimental for a person’s health and can cause a vessel to rupture. If this takes place in the brain it can cause a stroke. If it happens in the eye it can induce blindness. Similarly, if it takes place in the kidney can even cause kidney failure.

The actual root cause of this disease is not known for sure, however, the three main contributing factors determined by the scientists are the foods which are heavy in salts, fats and low in potassium. Other reasons are a sedentary lifestyle and stress. The only way to cure and avoid high blood pressure is to adjust to the three contributing factors. Eating right, getting exercise and managing stress will prevent the onset of the disease in 90% of the population.

Alkaline ionized water is also known to help counter the conditions of high blood pressure. A water ionizer can easily be installed on your kitchen tap which ionizer the tap water into electrically charged alkaline water. This water has two beneficial attributes. (a) Its pH is slightly alkaline; this contributes towards reducing excess acidity in our bodies. (b) The water is electrically charged, meaning it is a powerful antioxidant and fights off free radicals in the body that may cause much harm to the healthy cells. Drinking this alkaline ionized water along with eating healthy, exercising and living a stress free life will help prevent a person from having high blood pressure.
