Hewitt, Clijsters may miss Wimbledon 2011 - By: Neil Jhonson

WIMBLEDON 2011, may not be witnessing two former world number 1 players, Kim Clijsters and Lleyton Hewitt, in action due to their injuries. Clijsters has suffered an ankle injury and Hewitt has suffered an injury in his foot.

Though, both these players were in action in different grass court tournaments at AEGON Championships (Hewitt) and UNICEF Open (Clijsters), they were in some discomfort during their respective matches. Hewitt had to retire from the game when he was trailing 6-2, 3-0 against a Belgian player, Olivier Rochus. Clijsters managed to complete the match but lost in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 6-3 to an Italian, Romina Oprandi.

In a post-match conference, Clijsters said she would be going in for some medical test for her ankle then only she would be able to give appropriate answers to the media. She was very disappointed that the injury had come up at this hour. Hewitt also said that he was not sure whether he will play in Wimbledon 2011.

After her comeback from retirement, Clijsters has been playing superb tennis and has won hearts of many with her courageous display of tennis on the court. Hewitt, the top Aussie player for decades, has always been a tough nut to crack as he has played several matches with pain in the court. The crowd all around the world has really appreciated the determination that the Aussie has shown towards the game.

Both these players have always been right up there in popularity charts whenever they have walked on the courts of Wimbledon. If they fail to make it in the Wimbledon 2011 draw, the crowd would be no longer shouting ‘co-mmon’, which the Aussie has popularised the world over, whenever he scores a great point. They would even miss to see Clijster's powerful ground strokes, which she has made her own.
