Here Are Some Great Ways To Increase Your Nutrition - By: Kurt Kelly

While we need a certain amount of salt to insure good health, too much salt has been proven to have a number of adverse health impacts. If nothing else, too much salt can result in our retaining water. Who feels like exercising when we are bloated with excess water?

Aim to eat a lot of baked foods rather than fried. Baked foods are generally better for your body and come with a much lower count of calories, oils and carbohydrates. Also, you will feel a lot more energetic during the day if you consume quality baked foods on a daily basis.

If you're not a dairy drinker, now is the time to start. Studies have shown that people who regularly consume over six hundred milligrams of calcium per day as part of a healthy diet have significantly less body fat than individuals who consume less than 600 mg. Calcium intake can also be supplemented by eating broccoli or cottage cheese.

Stick to all-natural foods instead of those produced and refined in factories. Many times those foods add items such as extra fats, oils, greases and preservatives that can really harm your body. Try shopping from the parts of the stores where you can purchase produce, healthy protein and other "from the earth" products.

You may have heard a lot lately about the cruciferous vegetables: broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and brussels sprouts. Studies show they are a highly desirable addition to your diet. They reduce toxins in the intestinal tract and help prevent cancer--especially colon cancer. Their only downside is their high sulfur content, which disagrees with some peoples' digestion.

Decrease your red meat intake. Opting for fish instead of red meat gives you some of the same nutrients, but also adds in healthy fish oils that your body would not otherwise have. You will also consume much less unhealthy fat. You can also opt for white meats if you dislike fish.

Be careful when packing perishable foods in your child's school lunchbox. Foods such as tuna, yogurt, or sandwiches made with mayonnaise should never be left out for more than 2 hours to avoid the growth of harmful bacteria. Send lunches in an insulated lunchbox, or opt for non-perishable foods just to be safe!

When it comes to nutrition, one thing people don't even think about is their alcohol intake. They keep a steady/healthy routine throughout the week and then in one single night they can throw all their work down the drain. Think about this, a single gin and tonic has around 140 calories. Now think about if you have two or three of those in a night. Moderation is key to everything when it comes to nutrition.

Don't forget to count liquid calories. Americans drink a ton of juices and colas, but don't usually figure them into their calorie counts for the day. This cannot only make you fat if you're not careful, but it can also mess with your insulin levels. Reach for the water if you feel like drinking something.

Avoid jumping full force into a new nutrition style. You should pick a few things that you need to change about your eating habits, and stick to that change until you have created a new habit. To keep your body feeling good and healthy, be sure to intake a balanced nutritional diet every day.
