Herbal Remedies For Migraines - By: Lee MacRae

If you are a migraine sufferer, you are not alone. Famous people like Napoleon Bonaparte, Julius Caesar and even Elvis Presley during their lifetimes suffered greatly from migraines. Today this is a condition that affects six million people in the United Kingdom alone. Follow along as we show you some natural remedies you can try for yourself.

Migraine headaches are usually very intense pounding headaches that often involve only one side of the head. Migraine pain is so intense that you know it is no ordinary headache. Even slight movement can worsen the pain. Migraine headache sufferers tend to experience repeated bouts of migraine attacks and can be debilitating. A migraine headache has many symptoms and they can vary from person to person and from episode to episode.

A low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet. Many migraine sufferers report experiencing an attack shortly after eating too much sugary food (Headache Quart 1997, 8(4):319-329). In addition to sweets and sugar, refined carbohydrates also cause your blood sugar levels to quickly rise. This interferes with the normal actions of various neurotransmitters, such as serotonin, which are implicated in causing migraines and can prolong the length of an attack. The good news is that by consuming more 'healthy' fats in your diet - such as olive oil, flaxseed oil, and oily fish like mackerel, sardines and halibut - your levels of omega 3 fatty acids that are present in these foods are given a much-needed boost.

There have been numerous clinical trials conducted in order to accurately gauge the efficiency of St. Johns Wort in its capacity as an anti-depressant and some of the studies found that it can be very useful when it comes to treating cases of mild to moderate depression. If you are experiencing depression, you may want to give St. Johns Wort a try, but please, only after you have spoken with your medical practitioner.

If you are a migraine sufferer then continue to use the proper medication and home remedy therapies to help you live a better and pain feee life. Try to avoid foods or other things that seem to cause migraines for you. Get plenty of sleep and drink plenty of fluids. Try to relax and reduce the stress in your life.
