If you want to treat your hemorrhoids, something as simple as water can be a very effective treatment. Some simple exercises of the anus can prevent hemorrhoids. If you're not using the anus muscles, they might not be getting enough blood flow, causing hemorrhoids. Flex your muscles and hold for five seconds before relaxing. Do this for five minutes, every four hours for best results.

Before you turn to a doctor for a prescription to treat hemorrhoids, try implementing home remedies. Spending a few minutes in a lukewarm sitz bath, for instance, can offer some relief form hemorrhoid discomfort. Hemorrhoids can itch like crazy, but it's important not to scratch since this will just make things worse. Instead, use witch hazel pads and put them on the itchy spots for relief. Consume food high in fiber, and drink at least 64 ounces of water daily. This helps to maintain soft, regular bowel movements.

Never sit on the toilet when you are waiting to go. While some people like to read and relax on the toilet, they may actually be straining without thinking about it. Gravity also plays a part in affecting your hemorrhoids, so before you sit down make sure you need to go.

Ice can be used to reduce hemorrhoid pain. Hemorrhoids can cause severe pain. Prepare an ice pack for the area, to relieve some of the swelling and accompanying pain. For ever better results, alternate between an ice pack and a heat pack. You can also use this technique while taking a warm bath. Simply bring an ice pack with you, and alternate between sitting in the tub and sitting on the ice pack. This can help to relieve the discomfort caused by the pain, swelling and itchiness of hemorrhoids.

Run a lukewarm bath and sit in it with your knees at an angle. This allows the warm water to calm your hemorrhoid pain, and relieve inflammation and irritation. Use warm water, not hot water, to gently increase the blood flow that will ease the swelling and pain. Do this as much as you need to, and you will feel relief before you know it.

Don't wait by sitting on the toilet before you're expecting a bowel movement.
