Help eradicate Facebook spam, permanently - By: TrickVilla

Facebook users are daily flooded with spam links and videos saying that you have been tagged in the video. Don’t click on such malicious links as they can infect you with viruses and steal your private info from your Facebook Profile.

A single click on spam videos and links (shortened like bit.ly/hNTpR9) can share such links with your facebook friends via chat or by posting such spam links on their wall, yup forcibly & automatically. This is called click jacking.

Some common Video spamming examples:

“WTF I can’t believe you’re in this vid”
“ROFL i cant believe youre tagged in this video”
However, you can help curb this spam menace on Facebook via simple steps and contribute to a spam free social networking. Users want Facebook to eradicate spam but how will the men at Facebook know about a particular spam link when you don’t report it to them?

Follow the steps below to report spam links to Facebook:

Open your Facebook profile and find such links/videos
You will find a cross (x) near that post when you highlight it with your mouse. Click that cross.

Select Report as abuse

In the new box that opens, select Spam or scam and submit.

You will get a box saying Facebook doesn’t guarantee removal of this spam from the site. If you wonder why, then read the last two lines of this post.

Now click on the cross again and select mark as spam

The following box will appear. Click Confirm. This will delete the link from your wall, while marking it as spam too.

Facebook will remove that spam link only when they get a sufficient number of reports against that link. So spread the word and help remove spam permanently.

UPDATE:

You might be getting messages in chat/inbox/wall posts from your friends to click on a link, saying there is a video/pic/info of a girl or that they have tagged you in a picture.

These are spams, don’t visit such links.
They might infect you with viruses/malware/spyware if you happen to download anything from such links & may even steal your private info.

These links are masked and shortened and look something like:

bit.ly/hNTpR9

These are facebook apps and request you for permissions before you can open and view their content.

If you grant them the permissions they request, the maker of this app can access some of your private info like name, profile picture, gender, networks, user ID, list of friends, and any other information you’ve shared with everyone.

Also, they can access your chat and send out chat messages to all your online friends, bragging about the link.

If you have been a victim already, follow the steps below to remove the app from your profile:

Click on the accounts button on the top-right corner of your facebook profile
Then go to privacy settings
In the bottom-left corner of the page, you will find Apps and Websites, click on edit your settings under it
You will now see Apps you use category in the new page that opens, showing a list of your most recent apps
Click on the button edit settings in that category
A new page will open listing all the apps you use
Now find the app you find suspicious/spam and remove it by clicking on the cross shown near that app.
Alternatively, you can press Ctrl+F to find the name of the app you want to delete.
