Help To Banish Snoring From Your Life For Good - By: Marion Adkins

If you or someone you know has a snoring problem, there is a nifty trick that prevents snorers from rolling onto their backs. Sleeping on your back may increase your risk of snoring. Sewing a tennis ball into a pocket on the backside of a sleep shirt can help keep you from rolling onto your back during sleep.

Many people sleep with two or three propped up pillows so that they sleep in a kind of sitting position. This can reduce snoring. The pillows will help prevent nasal discharge from accruing in the nasal passages and will instead force the discharge into the lungs. You may find that it helps alleviate or reduce your snoring.

Make sure you are hydrated well to help prevent snoring also. Dehydration can restrict your nasal passageways by thickening the mucus in them and making it stickier, which increases the likelihood of snoring. To cut back on snoring, you should drink as much water and caffeine-free drinks as possible every day--at least 10 full glasses.

If you want to avoid snoring, start side-sleeping at night. People who lie on their backs are more likely to snore. Then again, sleeping on the stomach can strain the neck. For this reason, the best position for sleep is on your side.

Replacing a soft pillow with a firm one can help to eliminate your snoring. Your throat muscles can relax too much while sleeping on a soft pillow, thus allowing your airways to constrict. Since air has a tougher time getting through your air passages, you will start snoring. Having a firm pillow will help to open your passageways and keep them that way.

Snoring is often caused by eating dairy products, even when lactose intolerance is not present. Dairy increases the thickness of your mucus which then blocks your airways and gives you difficult breathing. An alternative to a glass of milk before bed can be herbal tea with a dollop of honey.

Do anything that you can to quit smoking. Smoking damages the respiratory system, as it is very sensitive. Having a damaged respiratory system leads to problems, like snoring. The sooner you stop smoking, the sooner the damage can heal and you can resolve your snoring problem.

Blow your nose and follow up with nasal spray to help stop your snoring. An additional benefit to using a saline nasal spray will keep your airways cleared and moisturized, which will allow you to breath easier while sleeping. This will also help you be better able to breathe using your nose and not your mouth, because you are less congested.

While it may not be easy to hear, if you lose weight, this might be something that will end your snoring issues. Excess weight accumulates everywhere on the body, including the neck area. This results in partial obstruction and leads to vibrations that cause snoring.

Don't use alcohol, or sleeping aids, in an attempt to stop snoring. Your central nervous system can be calmed from these chemicals, therefore relaxing your jaw and throat. This is not the most effective way of dealing with snoring though, as when you relax these muscles you often cannot breathe correctly, meaning that you will snore more. Try eliminating these substances instead. Use caution, as some of these chemicals can cause sleep apnea.
