Heard of the 500? - By: Mykalanne Gutierrez

When I first heard the Ford 500 with the Factory Original Ford Five Hundred Wheels , I thought that it was going to be a fancy sports car, but I was wrong .. to no real surprise. The Ford Five Hundred is a full-size sedan that was first manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. It was produced between the fabulous model years of 2005-2007 here in North America. The name recalled the classic Fairlane 500 and even the Galaxie 500 models that were shown through the 1950s & even the 1970s.

The Ford Five Hundred & the OEM Ford Five Hundred Wheels were first shown at the 2004 North American International Auto Show that was held in Detroit. It went into manufacturing on July 12, 2004 in Chicago. When they started, some people said that the Five Hundred replaced the Taurus since it was on the same Chicago Assembly Line.

On April 2007, production ended on the Ford Freestyle, Mercury Montego, Ford Five Hundred, & even the Original Ford Five Hundred Rims . The Ford Five Hundred was shown as the rebranded version of the 2008 Ford Taurus. The “face-lifted” version of the Ford Five Hundred had entered the Middle East market in 2008.

The Ford Five Hundred & the OEM Ford Five Hundred Wheels were part of Ford’s self-motivation of making & distributing all-new passenger cars. They designed these cars based on the 2000 Ford Prodigy concept car. Throughout the previous ten years, Ford had been relying too much on their SUV's & light trucks, whose sales had dropped because of the increase in gas prices - which is why they decided to manufacture the Ford Five Hundred.

The Ford Five Hundred & the Mercury Montego were built based upon the Ford D3 Platform; which is also known as the Volvo P2 Platform. These platforms strengthen the Ford Freestyle crossover SUV. In keeping with its Volvo roots, the Five Hundred & the Factory Ford Five Hundred Wheels has gathered class leading results in the crash tests that have been conducted by the IIHS & the NHTSA.

If you hadn’t paid attention to what I said before, the Ford Five Hundred is categorized as a full size passenger car - not a sports car .. even if it does sound like it’d be one. It’s manufactured longer than the Chevy Impala & the Toyota Avalon, but still about a foot shorter than the rear-wheel drive V8 Crown Victoria. The Ford Five Hundred & the Factory Original Ford Five Hundred Rims were made to match the large car interior volume, but still have the manageable outside dimensions, while at the same time, giving a lower than average fuel use. It’s even a little taller than your typical full-size sedan, which gives drivers the feel of driving an SUV or even a minivan. Even the trunk for the Five Hundred is bigger than the Impala and the Avalon!

So to recap, here are the basics : it was manufactured from July 2004-April 2007; its Predecessor and Successor was the Ford Taurus; it has a front engine, front-wheel drive, & four-wheel drive. When it came in 2008, it was renamed the Ford Taurus. This announcement was made at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show. The updated model had a new 263 HP & new front/rear styling. Cool, huh?
