Healthy Foods May be a Solution to Hip Pains - By: Katherine Russel

The answers for hip pain problems are not limited to exercise, weight loss, medicine and hip replacement surgeries. Many healthy foods are also part of the solution, according to medical professionals. The type of treatment for hip pain given to patients depends on their own case. Hip replacement treatments are one of the most critical surgeries. To this end, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave warnings to manufacturing companies about product failures. DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., a subsidiary company of Johnson & Johnson, was the specific recipient of the FDA’s warning.

Omega-3 fatty acids, which are famous for promoting cardiac health, may also reduce hip problems. The following are examples of foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids.

• Cold water
• Fatty fish, such as salmon, herring, anchovies, mackerel, sardines, and tuna
• Plant and nut oils, such as olive, canola, and flaxseed oils
• Leafy green vegetables, such as broccoli and lettuce
• Walnuts and pecans

She is also the owner of Nutrition Works in Louisville Kentucky. This advisory is deemed readily applicable, especially if the food labels list saturated fats, trans fats, or hydrogenated oils.

Moreover, eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and omega-3 fatty acids may help minimize inflammation and also help you maintain a healthy weight, both essential factors for relieving hip pain. It has also been known that increasing nutrients that support strong bones lessens risk of fracture.

Various researches further advise the public to eat foods rich in vitamins K and D and calcium like dried figs, milk, cheese cod liver oil, romaine lettuce, broccoli, spinach and other green, leafy vegetables.

Consuming a healthy mix of lean protein, complex carbohydrates, and fats high in omega-3 fatty acids may help maintain healthy joints and joint supporting structures, Meyerowitz adds.

"It's important to get seven to nine servings of fruits and vegetables every day as part of a healthy diet. If somebody were to change their behaviors and do that, they'd be taking out some of the other foods that might not be good for them," Meyerowitz says.
