Health Care Costs - By: shawnsum1

Health care insurers are passing an increase of 4% in premiums along to most employers this year. The employers are passing that increase on to their employees. According to a national survey the companies face an average of a 14 per cent increase.
The annual survey done by Kaiser Family Foundation, found the cost of health insurance for the average family is $13,770 a year. The employee will pay an additional $4,000 in 2010. Employers will pay the rest of the premium; their part of the policy did not increase.

The president of Kaiser, Drew Altman, said, "It's the first time I can see employers cope with rising health-care cost by, basically, shifting all increase to the workers." Drew Altman believes the poor economy and the possibility of health reform could be the why companies are willing to have the workers take on the higher premiums.

Employees since 2005 have had their health premiums increased by 47 percent, while premiums overall have increased by 27 percent. The wages during the same time period have only risen by 18 percent and the inflation has rose by 12 percent. Health insurance plans that are sponsored by employers lead the source of health plans in the United States. Employers cover around 70 percent of the heath care coverage cost to workers that are up from 60 percent last year.

As the premiums raise so will the deductibles. Around 30 percent of workers have deductibles of $1,000, that's an increase of 5 percent over last year. Small businesses with fewer than 200 workers have about half of their employees with deductibles of $1,000. or more. While the premiums and deductibles keep going up the wages are not.

Employers are in constants turmoil, do they cut job or ask their employees to pay more the health insurance? One never seems to out weigh the other. Something has to give. Employers and employees need help.
Do they increase the deductible or decrease the plan? All involved are trying to find ways to make a health plan work for all.
