It has been said that we can only strive for perfection but we can never achieve it. And yet for cars its has been said over the years, this car is a perfect one or that car is a perfect beauty. Does this mean perfection can be achieved? Well not quite. Because even after a model has been declared as perfect by the industry pundits in a few years the company will come up with the next version of the car which almost everyone will find is better than the previous “perfect” one.

One reason for this kind of perfection falling behind is that the technology for individual components moves forward ceaselessly. And so even if a car used the best available components of its time, in a few years better components will become available. Take for example the headlights of the car.

A few years ago we saw the arrival of HID headlights. The HID stands for high intensity discharge and as you can gather from the name the light sources of these headlights produced a stronger beam of light. Not only were these lights brighter they consumed less watts of power because more of the emitted radiation was in the visible range.

Today the new buzzword are LED headlights. LEDs have been around for a long time and a few years back they started being used as the light source for tail lights. And now you can get LED headlights as well. The reason for the delay is that though LEDs are great in the fact that they consume less power and are very durable, but till recently they were not large enough to produce enough light to be useful for the automobile industry. Once they got bright enough for tail lights the market saw the emergence of LED tail lights. And now as they have got still brighter one sees them being used for LED headlights. And when a new technology arrives the products not only give a stronger performance they also look very cool.
