Sufferers of migraine headaches can be found everywhere, and anyone can suffer from them. They are daughters and sons, young and old,.mothers and fathers, professionals and sanitation workers, Many people believe that a headache is just a headache. But chronic sufferers know that these are not ordinary headaches. The pain that these people suffer from is often debilitating. Many people do not understand how painful these headaches truely are. The pain is definitely real, and yes, it is occuring in their heads, but also occurs in their jaws, ears, eyes, sinuses and necks as well.

Migraine headaches can dramatically affect a individual's life It can interfere with a person's home life, relationships with family and friends and work productivity. Migraine headaches make recreation and exercise very difficult, and can interfere with an individual's ability to enjoy life. At first, many headache sufferers will try to treat themselves , and then will finally go to see a doctor. Many times patients find only temporary relief. Relative to others with debilitating disorders, like arthritis, chronic headache sufferers generally have a poorer quality of life.

At least 80% of migraine sufferers have some form of disability as a result of their migraines and some migraine sufferes are unable to function in society. It is not unconmmon to meet people who are so disabled by their headaches that getting from their beds to the bathroom is the highlight of their day. But "It's only a headache." Many non- sufferers do not understand the impact that headaches have on the people who suffer from them. It's ok to miss work due to a head cold or the flu, but if you call in with a headache, you are considered lazy. Migraine or tension headaches are debilitating disorders that can literally control a person's life. Many historical figures have suffered from headaches thru out time, such as Sigmund Freud, Julius Ceaser, Virginai Wolf, and Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

Headache disorders are the number one complaint treated by Neurologists. They are the third largest cause of lost workdays. It is believed that approximately 45 million Americans have chronic headaches. At least half of these people experience headaches severe enough to be disabling part of the time. The cost of this disorder can be incredible to soceity: regular victims of chronic headaches make over 8 million visits to their doctor's office every year. Over 157 million workdays due to headache pain are lost by migraine sufferers. The economic cost of this lost time due to migraines is staggering. In addtion to the devastating impact that these headaches have upon the individual's quality of life.
