The state flower of Hawaii is the yellow Hibiscus and it is one magnificent flower with yellow petals that exudes bright yellow color when struck with sunlight. This tropical flower is locally known as Pua Aloalo. Hibiscus has many varieties and each variety possesses a unique color. There are the bright red, pink, orange, white, and even multi-colored varieties and you can see each of them as you travel from island to island. Actually, exploring the beauty of Hawaiian flowers is one of the tourist's attractions of Hawaii.

Hawaii has many islands but the biggest are the eight major islands which are also represented by their official flower. In Oahu, the official bloom is the yellow Ilima. The Ilima can be found growing on almost every part of the island and natives said they also use this plant for therapeutic purposes.

Another wonderful flower is the anise-scented Mohikana which is the official bloom of the island Kauai. Although it is not actually a flower but a shrub, its flowers have very aromatic scent and used in making wreaths.

The Big Island is represented by the flower Ohia Lehua. Once considered glorified because of the natives' belief that it represents the volcano goddess Pele, this evergreen shrub grows endemically on volcanic soil of this island. It has spiky stems and yet bears flowers that have soft petals.

Maui's official Hawaiian flower is the pink Lokelani. Basically, this plant is not really exotic in this island because originally this was brought in by the Spaniards in 1880s. Its petals have a beautiful soft and smooth feel and fragrant scent. It now grows favorably on the island's tropical and humid climate. Molokai's official flower is the Kukui. Brought originally to the island by the Polynesians, it is now used making medicine, food preparation, making dye and adornment during natives' rituals. Other than these official flowers you could chance upon other exotic flowers such as different varieties of orchids, anthuriums, ginger, and heliconias and they all look magnificent they will make your travel in Hawaii very colorful.
