Hair Loss Products Can Be Detrimental If You Are Not Careful - By: Benjamin Scott

Prior to searching for the right treatment of hairloss, it is vital you take the time to do some research. What many people do not realize is that there are some forms of treatment out there that can actually be more detrimental than anything.

Various products like dye, bleach and a perm can damage your tresses leading to hairloss. What is even more alarming is the fact that some shampoos and even blow dryers can cause harm to your hair. However, the damage from products is usually not the same as hair loss that is caused by genetic or medical problems.

Because of this, it is difficult to link hairloss with the use of various products. The use of various products actually causes breakage, which is different than hair loss that happens at the level of hair follicle.

If you have been worrying about the effects that some of these products have caused to your hair, you can take a breath of relief knowing that you may be able to regain your hair back if you stop using the products causing the breakage. Treatment of hairloss can come in a number of forms. It is always a good idea to eat healthy. Soy protein, fish oil, b vitamins, and biotin are some of the foods and supplements that can contribute to having healthy hair.

On the other hand, if your hair loss is due to male pattern baldness which is the main reason most men lose their hair, eating healthy foods and supplements will only result beneficial for the hair if you reduce dihydrotestosterone levels on the scalp. Dihydrotestosterone is an androgen produced by the body that attaches to the hair follicles in men who have male pattern baldness.

The attachment of this androgen to the hair follicle does not allow blood to flow to the scalp and provide healthy nutrients for healthy hair growth. The result is thinner hair which eventually falls out.

One of the most effective treatments for reducing dihydrotestosterone levels is a prescription drug called propecia. Some men are able to slow down or halt their hair loss with this medication. The down side is that it can cause serious side effects.

Some of the side effects experienced by some men taking propecia are loss of libido, breast tenderness or breast enlargement, and erectile dysfunction. Many individuals like the idea of using propecia to treat their hair loss due to the fact that it is a simple pill that is instructed to be taken once a day.

Another medication for the treatment of male pattern hair loss is a drug called minoxidil which is available in pharmacies without a prescription. Minoxidil is applied directly to your head two times a day and it is suppose to work for the vertex area of the scalp, though many have also received good results applying it on the front part of the scalp.

If you decide to use propecia or minoxidil you may experience hair shedding for the first couple of weeks and maybe even months. This is considered a positive sign and it usually means that the hair follicles that were at a dormant phase are now making room for new thicker hair by pushing out and replacing the hair that was thin.
