Hair Loss may be partial or total. The following are the different kinds of hair loss:

a. Androgenic Alopecia. This is the dominant kind of hair loss which both covers men and women. Genetic reason is the number one factor of this kind of hair loss. Men whose parents are suffering from hair loss are more likely to inherit the same problem. This finding has been backed up by research and thorough studies.

b. Alopecia Areata. This condition causes tiny bald spot on the scalp like little patches, usually with a size of a coin. Like the first kind of hair loss, studies suggest that it is genetically patterned and can be inherited. However, many clinical studies also link Alopecia Areata to stress. Personally, I experienced this kind of condition when I was in college while I was doing my thesis. Stress really played a role.

This article is more concerned about Androgenic Alopecia since this is the prevalent type of hair loss among individuals which comprise at least 95% percent of hair loss in men. Most of this hair loss problem is preceded by an itchy scalp condition. Itchy scalp aggravates hair loss problem. Such kind of hair loss is not permanent and with proper procedures, hair growth may be obtained once the itchiness is cured or treated.

Something must be done to prevent the continuous hair loss, and must be correctly addressed; otherwise this problem will become constant and prevalent. The objective here is to stop hair loss and to promote hair growth again.

Here are some causes of hair loss which are associated with an itchy scalp:

Seborrohoeic Dermatitis. This condition causes the itchiness on the scalp which usually apparent through the presence of flaky and redness on the skin. A fungus is usually the common culprit of this problem. There are topical medicinal treatments available over the counter to settle this kind of skin disorder. The severity of this disorder shall cause hair loss according to studies. If it remains untreated, it may also lead to permanent hair loss due to damage of hair follicles.

Scalp Psoriasis. This disorder is characterized by red or white patches on the skin, with severe itchiness and may lead to baldness. It is said that this condition has genetic component. Anti fungal or anti bacterial products, especially those with Zinc component, may be effective to fight this kind of disorder.

Tinea Capitis or Ringworm of the Scalp. This is a fungal infection present on the scalp. A red or white patch is also one of the indications of this disorder, and may also lead to hair loss.
