Great Tip for Shopping for Bamboo Shades - By: Allan Michael Taylor

East Asian cultural tradition has always involved the use of bamboos in different constructions. One of the most popular ways by which bamboo has found its usage is with window shades. Bamboo shades are intimately woven materials that are a favourite in Asian homes and workplace because of the natural sense of style it brings and the durability that comes with its usage.

The shades differ in textures, colours and patterns. The most commonly used shade pattern is brown as it easily complements with any existing style and furniture pieces. The materials used for this type of shades are of three kinds- plated bamboo, imitated bamboo and the natural bamboo. Of the three kinds, the natural kind is the most desired as it brings a natural beauty to the place.

Bamboo sizes are not always the same. This makes the bamboo-made shades flexible enough to fit even the hardest-to-fit windows. The material can either be readily purchased as express (stock size) or made-to-order (custom size). When you opt for the stock size, the store would typically make and ship out their on-stock finished product within 3-4 working days. The package would contain the material you have purchased as well as an installation manual to guide you through. If the product which you have purchased does not fit the size of the window properly, the easily-adjustable feature of the shades can allow you to make some assembly adjustments for that perfect fit. The installation manual contains user-friendly step-by-step process to do this. Customized bamboo shades, on the other hand, means that the product is made based on your specifications. The specifications can include the size, pattern, style, texture, colour, design and thickness of slats to be used. Compared with the product offered in express, customized shades take longer lead time and are usually priced higher when you want more intricate details.

Many shops offer over a hundred different types and textures for these shades. These materials showcase the finest headrail to avoid getting the better of your window. The blinds are available in three options of lowering the shade- from the bottom, both from top and bottom (duo option) and from the top (the most unique among the three). A very popular among costumers is the pleated blinds. It looks like an accordion design that comes in a great variety. If you are after for more privacy, you may opt to add a privacy or blackout liner. This would allow you to maintain concealment for added comfort.

There are things to consider when using bamboo shades and this depends on the area where you are installing the shades. The shades can be great in bedrooms as it adds loveliness to the place. However, it is strongly suggested that you purchase blackout liner to darken the place so you can sleep soundly. It may also be installed in the living room but then again it falls short with privacy as it increases your visibility from the outside. This shortcoming is addressed by buying the liner as well. Two places where the shades are not strongly advised are the kitchen and the patio. There is no doubt to the amazing beauty the shades can add to the place but these areas have a usual high humidity. If you are seriously considering installing the shades in these areas, find the well-treated ones for the material to last long. These may be hard to find but there sure are stores offering this type.
