Good packaging is essential when mailing your goods. - By: Harvey Cozier

Why risk damage to your products, use appropiate packaging and mailing boses.

Sending parcels by post is easily and professionally done when you have the right packaging tools available. Proper packaging is important to everyone in order to minimise possible damages that may occasionally occur in the process of mail deliveries. It's important to save time efficiently by having the right mailing boxes and packaging tools handy before you need to send items out for delivery. The post office or courier service of your choice always appreciates a thoroughly sealed and secured package that is ready to send as well, especially in the appropriate cardboard mailing boxes and packaging.

The most common and essential packaging tools for small or large items is of course the standard cardboard mailing box. When selecting a cardboard mailing box, it's generally best to pick a size that fits your object with minimal empty space around it inside of the box. During the average mail transit, if there is too much empty space around the contents of the cardboard mailing box, the contents have more opportunity to shift around and experience potential damage. The best cardboard mailing boxes are easy to assemble and have clearly visible and labeled areas to write the sender's address, the receiver's address, and a designated area to attach the postage stamps or other postage labels. There are several different standard sizes to choose from in such cardboard mailing boxes, with the smallest professional parcel boxes generally being the compact disc size at about 150mm x 140mm x 15mm. The wide range of sizes in cardboard mailing boxes makes it convenient to find the perfect size. When mailing larger items, you have additional options of much sturdier, corrugated cardboard mailing boxes with double walls for extra protection; these boxes can readily be found in 200mm x 200mm x 200mm perfect square sizes. Check for options to buy your favourite cardboard mailing box sizes in bulk, in packs of 10 or 15 that come together. For specialty fragile items like bottles and other slightly rounded objects, there is a perfectly shaped extra strong cardboard box that has a rounded side and slightly reinforced sides, measuring 130mm high x 405mm wide (at its widest point) x 110mm deep.

The water proof and highly insulating properties provided by plastic bubble wrap make it the next key packaging tool. If the contents you are sending by post happen to be extremely fragile, it's a good idea to have a box that allows for at least two layers of bubble wrap protective packaging material to be wrapped and taped completely around the object on all sides inside the box, in order to sufficiently provide a bit of shock absorption. Jiffy bubble film protective packaging, like other quality bubble wraps, comes on rolls that allow it to be cut in exactly the perfect size for your specific packaging needs. These bubble wrap rolls are lightweight and strong packaging tools, commonly available with 10mm bubbles on rolls up to 10 meters long, and 50 - 60mm in width. For really large packages or if you ship packages requiring bubble wrap often, you may even consider getting a deluxe 30 meter long roll of bubble wrap with a width of 750mm.

Sending artwork, posters, and other oversized papers is best accomplished with the reliable cardboard postal tube. This packaging has one of the most naturally durable shapes, and the plastic caps commonly found on the ends of postal tubes form a tight and secure seal for mailing. Sizes are often found to be generally 450mm long and 75mm in diameter, and they are very lightweight to keep shipping costs low too.

Finally the real key packaging tool to seal everything together is strong packaging tape, widely available in the popular Scotch brand among others. Packaging tape is often brown, but the clear tape is generally more attractive and has the benefit of not concealing any addresses or labels that you may need to tape across when sealing the box thoroughly. It's a good standard practice to seal all edges to protect from any possible moisture, and to thoroughly tape in a full circle completely around a box for extra strength and peace of mind. The best and most useful packaging tape comes in small dispensers with a metal edge that allows you to easily cut off the tape while working, eliminating the need for additional scissors. Packaging tape, particularly the kind that comes in a dispenser, typically comes in 50mm wide rolls up to 20 meters long.

No matter the goods, appropriate packaging is necessary when mailing or delivering your products to ensure no damage is sustained in transit.
