Reducing environmental impact within the home is something commonly practiced by folks in the UK, but what about the workplace? Many workplaces simply don’t have an effective environmental policy firmly in place. Consider adopting a few of these good habits!

Recycle
A huge number of UK businesses are stuck in a stationary and supplies rut! Rather than sticking with a supplier for old times’ sake, shop around to find the best deals on recycled paper, refillable printer cartridges etc.

Going paper free is a great idea! Simple measures like supplementing regular greetings cards for business e cards (e.g. business Christmas cards) can save thousands of tonnes of paper annually. But remember to recycle the likes of last year’s business Christmas cards, junk mail, glass containers, packaging and so on. Implementing a recycling scheme within the office environment is usually just a matter of creating a set of effective, easy habits for employees to pick up.

Save Energy and Resources
Car sharing holds many benefits, such as saving fuel, minimising transport costs and reducing the number of cars on Britain’s roads. And on that note, perhaps give the lift a miss once at work; take the stairs instead.

Take a look at the light pollution outside the average home window at night. Needlessly leaving office space lighting on twenty-four hours a day is not only a huge waste of energy, but can be confusing and harmful to wildlife such as migrating birds. Always turn the lights off at the end of the day.

Rather than print out next year’s Christmas business e cards list to edit, alter it on screen. A large number of business are investing in products like Apple’s iPad to enable their administration staff to more efficiently and environmentally soundly carry out their vital duties.
