Give Linens As Your Next Gift - By: Victor Epand

Are you searching for that perfect house warming gift for a family member or a friend? Linens, beautifully wrapped and cleverly presented, are ideal gifts for any occasion from housewarming to wedding to birthday to anniversary.

You may want to consider some suggestions when searching for that perfect house warming gift. Luxurious bed pillows are something people rarely think to buy for themselves, and yet a quality pillow and the good rest it provides is essential to one's well being. Choose pillows to satisfy your gift recipient's particular needs and preferences such as support for a bad back, anti-allergy, or filled with finest goose down.

When giving pillows you can simply tie up two pillows with a big satin bow. You can then sweeten the deal with some bedtime reading such as a classic novel or current best seller slipped beneath the bow. Is there a busy mother on your list? If so, then you may want to wrap a dozen white washcloths with a raffia ribbon. They will come in handy for everything from bathing to housecleaning to auto washing.

Linens are an especially welcome gift for a couple's wedding or shower, and towels just happen to be the second most popular registry item. When giving the gift of blankets, sheets, or pillowcases, then you may want to add his and hers slippers or maybe a breakfast tray for good measure. When giving towels, toss in a rubber ducky or a wooden handled back brush.

For the friend who deserves a special pick me up, you may want to create a spa in a basket with everything she needs for several good, long soaks. Line a large basket with striped or patterned hand towels, then add pretty soaps, scented votive candles, luxurious bath towels, washcloths, a quality hairbrush, and extravagant lotions and potions. You may also want to include a split of wine or champagne, or a selection of herbal teas.

College kids and young adults just starting out are in need of thick, sturdy towels that withstand constant use and the heat of commercial dryers. For a fun gift, choose wonderful bath sheets in several bright colors and wrap them up with matching soaps. Do you know someone heading off on vacation? Wrap a set of colorful beach towels in coordinating bows, then slip a bottle of suntan lotion and a bright pair of plastic sunglasses between the folds. A child's plastic pail and shovel would also guarantee a smile.

Give these new home owners some helpful tips for caring for their bath and bed linens, which will help them to last long and look great. Bed linens should be changed and laundered once a week.. Store freshly washed linens on the bottom of the pile so the same set does not always get used. Wash cotton sheets on a warm setting and bleach only with non-chlorine bleach according to manufacturer's instructions, and never overload the washer or dryer.

Tumble dry on the cotton setting, but be sure to promptly remove and fold sheets when dry. Bed linens with embroidery, lace or scalloped edges may need ironing, but using unadorned cotton sheets and pillowcases straight from the dryer or clothesline is a special pleasure. Just-purchased printed sheets may feel a bit rough at first, because the dye used in printing is extra thick and has a surface texture. They will soften nicely after a few washings. Sheets woven with a higher thread count will become softer after each washing. Tumble dry on a medium heat setting, and remove promptly from the dryer to reduce wrinkling.

Wash towels in soft, warm water with mild detergent and avoid chlorine bleach, even for whites. Tumble drying will enhance softness. Avoid fabric softener, because it will make towels less absorbent. Instead, shake each towel once when wet and again after drying, to fluff up the loops. Wash new towels before use to remove any excess dye and finishing solvents.
