The way a package arrives to your customers is just as important as how a call is handled or how staff deal with customers face-to-face, as there is little point in giving a great first impression, handling a call well and then failing to deliver on the product or the timescale you promised.

The way products arrive is physical evidence of how your company operates and is one of the main touch points with your customers. When a package lands on the doorstep, even the way it has been packaged will all go towards the customer forming a positive or negative image about a company. Well packaged products with the address clearly and correctly shown and with the correct invoice details enclosed will instantly provide a positive corporate identity. However if the parcel arrives in a tatty box with damaged product and the address details spelt incorrectly the customer will very quickly form a bad impression.

If you then add to this late delivery you may very well cause your customer to make a mental note to shop elsewhere next time. Most customers will not complain, they will simply opt for one of your competitors – and tell all their friends - so getting your courier service right is extremely important.

Set yourself and your courier company certain service levels and make sure you and the courier you use stick to them. It pays to run quality checks from time to time to ensure the delivery process is working well from picking the right item, to packaging it sufficiently to getting it to the customer on time. If you identify flaws in the process address them quickly.
