Getting the Look with Cafe Furniture at Home - By: Phoenix Delray

Finding the perfect pieces of furniture to instill the look of a chic cafe in your home doesnt have to entail you going out to all corners of the earth to find fine French bistro tables and exotic chairs. There is a lot more than just finding some tables and chairs when you are going for a cafe look for your home; this is evidenced by the TV show Friends, when the cafe/coffee shop had the tables, chairs, counters, and sofas that came together beautifully for a completely comfortable and inviting ensemble.

Before you run out to buy a bunch of comfy furniture, you must keep in mind these things if you are going to successfully dress your home like a cafe. First of all, remember that colors are more than just colors they affect peoples feelings and their moods. Thats right, we are talking about psychological effects on peoples unconscious minds, whether it be for better or for worse. Your goal of course is for the better. Shades of yellow, orange, and brown are soothing, cheery, and inviting colors that are used in cafes. Blue is actually one color that you might want to stay away from if your furniture will be of the cafe persuasion. Think about it how many cafes have you been in that showcase blue tables?

Second, you will need to keep in mind the reasons why people go to cafes. They go to relax and re group, and you will want people to feel that way in your home, too. Many cafes stay away from red colors red is usually interpreted as a powerful, forceful, even angry color sometimes. No matter which way you slice it, red is not a very soothing color for guests in your home if you are looking for a cafe ambiance. The furniture in your home should send out soothing, light, and inviting messages to your guests.
The furniture that you pick out should also blend together well with any cafe themes that you will be working with as well. Will you have pictures, framed art, or wall hangings that will be cafe ish? This would be a great idea, and you also have to make a distinction between if your home cafe will be a traditional, old world cafe look or if it will be an ultra modern look with the red and silver colors, metal and leather. If the classic cafe is more of the look you are going for, it may be best to stick with the oranges, yellows, and browns.

Last but not least, you will want to make sure that your furniture is durable, stain resistant, and of course comfortable.
