Getting Out of Debt Will Make You Feel Much Better - By: Logan Reid

All we should instead do is examine our thoughts, our dreams, our checkbooks, and we'll set out to see our treasure. When I have a few minutes to think and daydream regarding the future, what do I imagine? Too often, I believe about looking good in someone's eyes-or more properly, looking better than that guy in someone's eyes. And I have learned to measure my value by way of the performance of my portfolio or the quarterly sales of my business. If my treasure is a approval of others, I'll always be a puppet dancing for a string, being pulled by the word of affirmation or maybe a frown on someone's face.

There's a better way to live.

Jesus said our time, thoughts, and resources may be devoted to what matters most inside universe. In fact, he invites us to be partners with him in the greatest adventure that can be bought: loving people . He or she told his followers, "Don't hoard treasure down here where the idea gets eaten by moths together with corroded by rust or-worse! -stolen as a result of burglars. Stockpile treasure within heaven, where it's safe from moth and rust and burglars. It's obvious, isn't it? The place where your treasure is usually, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being" (Matthew 6: 19-21).

Risk Losing Your Grip

Elisabeth Elliot often has piercing insight regarding the spiritual things. We are wise, she observes, to loosen our grip on money so our hands can grasp something far more valuable. In Always keep a Quiet Heart , she wrote, "Money holds terrible power whether it is loved. It can blind us, shackle us, load us with anxiety together with fear, torment our days to weeks and nights with misery, wear us out using chasing it.... Poverty has not been my experience, but God has allowed in the lives of each of us some sort of loss, the withdrawal involving something we valued, so that we may earn to offer ourselves a little more willingly, to allow the touch of death on one more thing we have clutched which means that tightly, and thus know volume and freedom and joy that much sooner. " *[Elisabeth Elliott, Retain a Quiet Heart , (Revell, 2004), pp. 38-39. ]

Once we learn to value the points Jesus Christ values, people live the richest, the majority rewarding, and most challenging life we could live. Sure, it's complicated, and there are many risks. That's what an adventure is all about. I'm learning that life is not really as simple as some folks suggest-it's more like a twisted mystery quite often. In the struggle for the soul, Christ has assured that his Spirit can guide us, even once we aren't aware of his presence.

May your new year be filled with peace, joy, and enjoy.
