Getting Health Assessment in Preparation for Health Insurance Application - By: Steve W.

The health adage that goes, "Prevention is better than cure" never goes out of style with the competing increase in the prevalence of health problems and in the cost of health care services. With your own efforts to take care of yourselves, you can have less health-related problems to deal with and you may even lead healthier, happier and more productive lives. It is true that health insurance has helped us in the paying for the costs of health care services over the years. However, with the changes in the health care services and insurance trends, more and more people are prompted to take action for themselves. Understanding your health status through health assessments is a good way to start with. You can achieve this by having yourselves professionally assessed by health care providers.

Health assessments provide a bird's eye view as well as a detailed picture of our current health status. It is composed of range of tests and diagnostic procedures. In General, health assessment includes a medical history session, a physical examination and a consultation with a physician. Medical history provides a good health background and information where risks and predisposition for health problems can be identified. A physical examination allows the nurse or doctor to check that your body is in order and to identify any strange or out of the ordinary occurrence in your body that may indicate health problems. A consultation with a doctor allows you to ask any health-related questions and discuss any health-related issues you may have.

Tests such as urine, stool and blood tests may also be carried out. Usually, tests will be available on the same day. The results will also be discussed with you by the doctor during the consultation. After all these, you will be given a health report to summarize the findings and to present to you a health plan to minimize your risks and to deal with any existing health conditions.

There are more specific and in-depth health assessment procedures that are tailored for each life stage and situations. These include health assessment for women, for men or for the elderly. Each life stage and gender presents specific health issues that can relevantly affect a person's health condition and health challenges.

All these are essential in preventive health care management. With the changes in the health care industry and the behavior or people towards healthcare management, the significance of this health assessment extends not only on to personal health management strategies but also on how we avail other healthier services including health insurance.
