Get the most out of a business club to build business contacts and extend your network - By: Felicity Lightbody

Business clubs are great for networking and learning how to refine your own business skills. Most business owners use clubs that are geared towards contacting other entrepreneurs who may be interested in certain products and services. Some companies that specialise in business-to-business networking may use these types of clubs to promote their own products.

The first step is to join a club that you feel is very close to your own interests. Some clubs may be located online or in local areas. To find clubs, simply do an Internet search or sift through the community classifieds section of your local newspaper. Most members will be charged an annual fee in order to become a member. Most members will also be assigned a password in order to log into the website. The next step is to meet the other businesses. This can be done by attending a business networking event. Some of the better clubs have at least 7,000 business members or more, but it is not a good idea to underestimate smaller businesses, which may also have networks. The main goal of joining business clubs is to connect with others all over the world. It is important to get as many people to learn about your business as much as possible.

The best way to use a business club is network with other decision makers who have the power to assist your company or help you gain knowledge in how to succeed. Most business owners also become friends on a personal level. Business owners should also be prepared for meeting other entrepreneurs from different countries so it is important to be respectful of other people's cultures.

If a business owner does join a club, they should search for as many benefits as they can. They will also be able to get discounts on certain products and services. Sometimes, these products are offered from other members. It is important for members to try to attend as many events as possible including social events. Some clubs are strictly web-based, but that does not mean that there are no in-person social events. Some events, however, can take place over the web such as online seminars or phone conferences. Attending a business networking event using this method can be very convenient, however it is important to actually physically attend events as well. If a business owner wants to become more visible and well connected with other decision makers, using a business club is a good idea.
