When you breakup with someone you feel strongly about it can feel like part of you is walking out the door with them. The two of you at times could complete each other's thoughts. You also shared so many of the same interests and got to know each other better than you did your own families.

So it only makes sense that losing them would affect you deeply. The problem is it does not stop there for many people. They convince themselves that they will never love again or never meet anyone like their ex.

In essence what they are doing when they go that route is handing power and the final decision about the relationship to their ex. Relationships are a two way street. If one person is in control then even if you get back with that person, it will be apparent to them who is really in charge. Hint: It won't be you.

If you want to get over your ex then it is crucial that you get on with your life in every way and every phase. There are certain ways to go about it that can be of great benefit. For instance don't go to your their house, stop by any places the two of you used to go, or talk to them on some social networking website. Make it a clean break and refuse to settle for anything less.

Use this time to get strong. Don't mope around so people that know the two of you report back to your ex how miserable you are. When that happens your ex will figure out instantly that you are just faking and have no intention of getting over them.

They say they want to date other people. No problem. You do the same. Not out of spite but just to go out and have a good time. Feeling good about yourself and getting on with your life is power. It's the kind of power that no one can take away from you. Not even your ex.
