Multi-level marketing (MLM), basically runs its business functions by recruiting sales people who sell the company's products and services with an offer of commission. But the concept of Multi-level marketing faces legitimacy problems as it is seen as difficult to point out a clear distinguishing definition from pyramid schemes.

In majority of legitimate MLM companies, sales people earn their commissions only from the sales of the products and services of the company though there is money earned through recruiting of new members. A multi-level marketing business can be compared to a pyramid if the participants are paid out of the money gathered from new recruits, or if they are sold more products than the amount they can sell.

Over the years, companies have come up that offer a range of services from internet access, weight loss programs, financial programs, solar power, nutritional products etc. By the formation of these companies has seen to; the direct involvement by most people saves on time, costs are cut for it would be on a need basis.

Generally, its all about sales and distribution which serves a vital business skill required. Network Marketing is not just the idea/concept of a company selling on its own but rather looking out and recruiting other people who as much as they also sell your products/ services they as well recruit new people to sell your product. In a way you are helping them open up their own business but you aim to gain from the profit cuts you acquire from those recruited. MLM puts more efforts to achieving a larger distribution network.

Multi-level marketing is seen to invest more energy on the recruiting exercise as opposed to the actual selling of the products and services they offer. To most it would appear that MLM will be recruiting more competitors offering the same product and services but contrary to that belief, multi-level marketers benefit from the cuts they receive out of the profits of these recruits.

With multi-level marketing companies, most of them provide training by generally giving you knowledge in regard to their products and services. The skills under which they provide which will be guided to helping you in prospecting and sales include; approach/involvement, overcoming objections, the ability to achieve a sale, qualifying, prospecting, management of time, presentations, telephone techniques and basic computer skills.

To ensure a successful MLM business one needs to come up with multi-level marketing leads which may come in form of the warm market, as a referral, self-generated or even purchased. You should be able to turn these leads into hot prospects which can be seen as both a skill and an art. One needs more leads though it involves investing money into it yet you could subscribe to a particular call that can be seen as is considered as having all methods of prospecting.
