There is really no reason to become obsessive in trying to avoid germs that you will probably come into contact with. Germs are good in that they help your body become better at fighting more germs later on. That does not mean that you should avoid certain germy items whenever possible. Some thing's do have a tendency to contain more germs than others and should be avoided.

Restaurant menus tend to be very germy because they are touched by a variety of different individuals day in and day out. No most of the time you are going to have to look at the menu in order to place your order but take care not to allow the menu to touch your plate, silverware, or napkin and be sure to wash your hands as soon as your order is placed. This can help you to avoid picking up a nasty illness after a lovely evening out. Skip the lemon. When dining out you may be tempted to order a drink with a lemon wedge on the side. Research shows, however that over 65% of all lemon wedges contain microbes that cause bacteria. Some even included E. coli and fecal bacteria. So if you are looking to stay healthier you may just want to skip the fruit.

Grocery carts are another item that rarely gets cleaned and while you may not be a germ a phobe you may want to bring some antibacterial wipes along with you to wipe down the seat for your child and the handle for yourself. It has actually been found that these carts contain more fecal matter on average then you would find in a restroom and it is important to avoid food samples while you are shopping so that you aren't sticking your hands in your mouth while in the store. Who knows what you might be sticking in there?

Going to see the doctor can be a dangerous and germ filled experience when it is supposed to be the opposite. Naturally there will be a constant stream of sick people going in and out of the office, leaving germs as they pass. You don't want to get too close to other patients so that they can sneeze or cough on you. It is even smart to avoid touching the magazines that are there for patients to enjoy. Hopefully you will have a doctor that has a room set aside for sick people and another for those that are well.

You do want to come into contact with a certain number of germs so that your body becomes immune to them. There is no reason though to not try to avoid the majority. Keeping hand sanitizer close to you is smart and should be utilized often. That is just one of the many little things that you can do to avoid germs that will get you sick.
