Gender Prediction Using The Chinese Age Chart And Other Methods - By: Allan Michael Taylor

One of the favorite things for a newly pregnant woman to do is use the Chinese age chart to predict the baby's gender. This and other old wives tales remain active even today in the 21st century. Many of the old wives tales defy reasoning, yet freshman pregnant will suspend all rational thought to find out the big mystery question called boy? or girl?

The people of china are said to have created a chart that blends the age of the mother at conception with the month conception took place to find out the gender of a baby. These are so popular they can be found on many internet sites focusing on pregnancies. Somehow the Chinese and predicting the gender of babies seems contradictory, but the chart is one of the most frequently used methods of gender prediction.

Another method for guessing gender is by swinging the mother's wedding ring over her midsection. If the ring swings in a circle, it will be a boy. If the ring swings back and forth in a line, it says a girl. An alternate version of this is swinging a new, sharpened pencil attached to a sewing needle over the mom's non-dominate hand. Are these methods also predictors of boys' and girls' future behavior on swingsets? Boys go round and round while girls prefer swinging in a line.

The food cravings of a pregnant woman is notoriously popular among urban legends. Husbands are sent out in the middle of the night for pickles and ice cream. Legend also has it that sweet cravings indicate a girl. Salty, sour, and spicy mean a boy is on the way. It is interesting that the pickle and ice cream story has a sweet and a sour food. Does that mean twins?

Another method of forecasting the gender of a baby is by counting the heart beats. A girl baby's heart allegedly beats more than 140 bpm, in contrast to a boy which would beat less than 140. Of course, the equipment used to measure the fetal heart rates hasn't been around as long as most of the other tales. Perhaps the women a few centuries from now will use some of our practices as the new old wives tales.

The height of the baby bump on the mother is also said to be an indicator of gender. The babies who sit high are going to be little ladies. The ones who sit low will be lads. This test must be for the moms who don't care to actually find out the sex using an ultrasound. It seems that by the time the baby is large enough to show whether it is sitting high or low, an ultrasound could been done to get a more definitive result.

These are a few of the more popular myths for predicting the gender of a child. The really strange ones involve leg hair growth, urine color, eating the ends of bread, and temperature of feet. Whether a pregnant woman calculates her Chinese age or monitors the direction of her pillow to hypothesize the baby's sex, the real answer can only be known when baby actually enters the world.
