Gateway of India is the monument in the South Mumbai, Apollo Bunder area. The design of the Gateway of India is the combination of the Hindu as well as the Muslim style. The Gateway is built from the yellow basalt and the reinforced concrete. The stone was brought from Gwalior and is locally obtained from there. The central dome of the Gateway is 15 meters (49 ft) in diameter and is 26 meters (85 ft) above the ground which is the highest point. The cost of construction of the Gateway of India was 21 lakhs which was all borne by the Government of India.
