Planting a tomato right in your backyard is not only beneficial to your health but it may be a start of a booming business. Some tomato growers started a small plot of tomato garden and then expanded, the next thing that they know is that they are supplying their local towns tomato needs.

1. Choose the type of tomato that you want to grow. There are actually a lot of variety, if not hundreds, of tomato and you can select which of the many tomato you want to cultivate in your backyard. After selecting the variety of tomato that you want to grow, you can then shop for supplies that you will be needing in the long run. Garden gloves, back hoe, manure fork and compost fork.

2. See to it that the soil bed is organically ready for the tomato seeds. You can do this by mixing your backyard soil with kitchen waste, paper products like old newspaper, magazine, bondpaper, sawdust etc., and garden waste. These products can actually help your tomato grow healthy because these organic wastes serve as a fertilizer.

3. One of the most important element a tomato need in order to grow healthy is a good sunshine. Select an area where the sun can freely sprinkle its sunshine on the tomato.

4. Always remember to water your tomato daily. This is where they get their nutrients in order to grow and be healthy just as humans get their nutrients from the food they take into their bodies.

When you see your first organic tomato, it will be worth every sweat youve invested and it is true that growing organic tomato is not easy but it is absolutely very rewarding when the harvest time comes.

Tomatoes like a good healthy soil that is full of organic matter and nutrients along with a good soil structure that provides good aeration, drainage and retains moisture well.
Never start your plants to early. Tomatoes like warm soil temperatures. If needed warm the soil two weeks before planting by covering with black plastic.
Direct sunlight is very important in growing a strong healthy tomato plant. Tomatoes should be planted in an area that will receive a minimum of eight hours of direct sunlight.
Preparation of the planting location is also very important. Bury your tomato plants deep, burying the stem a minimum of half it's total height. It takes a little more time to plant this way but the growth and productivity of the plant will be rewarding. When planting tomato plants deep it gives them the ability to form roots that will branch off of the stem. This will give the plant a big advantage of forming a large healthy root system which benefits it's nutrient intake greatly.
