Garden Wedding Ideas - How To Plan The Perfect Garden Wedding - By: Lise Rina

Having a garden wedding can be magical and romantic, but there are problems that can come up that would normally if having a wedding indoors. Here are some garden wedding ideas that will make your garden wedding perfect for you and your guests.

The most important idea is to have a plan in case it rains. Many garden weddings are held in back yards and hopefully you have a big enough one to rent a large tent for the reception. If necessary the wedding can also be held in the tent if it rains. Just be sure to have people on hand that can help move tables and chairs if you must. If there is a church or other building nearby that is suitable in which to hold the ceremony make sure to talk with the owner and have them on board if the venue needs to be changed because of weather.

Decorating for a garden wedding can be elaborate or simple, but the most important part is that most of the decorations are already in place in the garden. Take a look around the area in which you are having the wedding with a critical eye. Are there things there you do not want your guests to see? Are the garbage cans hidden? Is the shed slightly unsightly? Make sure there is nothing there that you would not want to see in one of your wedding pictures and if there is there are a few things that can be done to hide them. Rent some large palms from a florist to hide things you might not want to be seen. Groupings of large plants can hide a multitude of sins. Decorate outbuildings with ribbons, streamers, and tulle or other material. This can hide any chipped and peeling paint or other imperfections.

It is advisable to have a beautiful backdrop where the ceremony is going to be held just so there is some focus in the area. You can use an existing clump of trees that is already available or use the area where flowers grow up a trellis. Stone walls or a rock garden make great places to situate the ceremony or if you don't have any of those things use an arbor. Rent an arbor or arch from a rental store and decorate it with ribbons, fabric, tulle and most important - flowers. In between the metal structure weave in some grapevines or ivy to make it look more natural. You can rent large potted plants and pots of flowers in your chosen color to beautify the area. Do not forget to observe sun patterns in the space because you do not want your guests or you and your future spouse to be looking into the sun during the ceremony. Situate the space in a wooded area if possible.

Electricity is a must at an outdoor wedding so be sure that it is possible to run lines outside. Musicians for the ceremony will need to be able to plug in amplifiers and instruments. Sound disperses quickly outside and an instrument that would normally be able to be heard indoors will not be able to be heard outside. Electric pianos will need to be plugged in. A microphone will be needed for anyone singing as well. The person performing the ceremony should be on a microphone so that they don't have to compete with tweeting birds or traffic noises. The reception band or DJ will need to plug in multiple lines so be sure there is enough workable outlets for them.

Flowers should be the main decoration at the garden wedding. Fill in spaces in the actual garden with containers of flowers. Prior to the wedding mulch the beds and make sure they look neat and tidy. Include some statues or a gazing ball in the gardens to make people want to gather there and include some benches and lawn chairs so they can feel comfortable before and after the ceremony in small areas of the garden.

If it will be dark before everyone leaves string white twinkle lights in the branches of trees and other large plants or you can tie pastel colored lanterns from tree to tree. Line the pathways with large mouth mason jars filled three fourths full with a colored sand or gravel and insert a votive candle to light the way. Situate a pretty bird bath at the entrance to the receiving line and include a sign that requests for guests to throw a coin in the water and make a wish for the newly married couple.

Make your garden wedding a thing of peace and beauty. This is truly a great way to start your new life together.
