The Japanese have created lots of wonderful technology, which a lot of us use every day. They also have different living habits to us and with there being lots of bedsits in Japan, this may be the reason why they designed a brilliant bed which is called a futon bed.

They have a very similar concept to our sofa beds, having the ability to change from a bed to a seating area within minutes. The futons are quite close to the floor and are made of a frame with a separate mattress on the top. The frame can be made from metal or wood and can be in single or double size so they can accommodate any guests you may have at your home.

Depending on how often you are planning to use the bed the frame may need to be selected a little more carefully. There are heavy duty frames available for regular use whilst most frames will be more than adequate for occasional use.

The futons would be perfect, for example, in a bedsit where there is limited space; it could be used as a bed and then folded for seating space in the daytime or when you are expecting guests.

Another advantage of the futon beds are that when the mattress needs replacing you can just purchase a mattress and they are available in various depths for varying comfort. They are also available in many different colours so that it is easier to match it up to your decor.

There are lots and lots of beds available on the market these days, but the futon beds are definitely the best when it comes to finding a piece of furniture that needs to serve as a seating area as well.
