Fun and Friendly Casual iPhone Games - By: Melissa Higbee

A few months ago, Nielson, the renowned market research company, stated that games are more popular on the iPhone compared to any other Smartphone. In addition, more game apps were downloaded compared to other apps, such as news or information rich apps. A debate ensued in the comment box regarding how iPhone users are ‘time wasters’ versus other Smartphone users. Whatever the reason, one cannot argue against the broad range that iPhone offers, and have tempted even the workaholic, to switch to this particular mobile solely for its game apps.
Every month witnesses a series of a rich variety in genre, catering to youngsters and adults alike. Of these, the casual genre games are in great usage for their uncomplicated techniques that can be picked up during play. Moreover, unless one is prone to becoming easily addicted, these games are suited for the personality type that does not wish to indulge in suspense-thrillers or other emotionally intensifying games. Looking back, PacMan had ruled the video games for its single strategy and simplicity. The game continues to be an inspiration for the present developers as well, for instance, Manu. Three games described below have also gained popularity for similar reasons: friendly and fun.

1. Blot: A paid app, this blob of ink is released from a fountain pen and flies across, up and down to avoid stationery that comes in his path, such as thumbtack and pencils. It scores points through ‘boost buddies’ and swallowing coins along the way. Its artistically sketched background provides for an exciting background. Reviews have accused this game for lack of originality and it does remind one of the original Pacman. Nevertheless, it is a truly entertaining app worth its little cost.

2. Fishing Joy HD: One can submerge themselves in the depths of the ocean and find eleven different varieties of fish to catch. The player is armed with nets with which to catch fish before they swim out of the screen. Each caught fish turns into a coin and when enough are caught, one is rewarded with a ‘Thunderbolt Laser Gun. ’ The new version, ‘Versus Mode, ’a rare offer by gaming platforms, allows friends to join and compete against to collect as many gold coins as possible. The graphics are beautiful and enticing music that will attract children and adults. ‘Secret features’ are also available for discovery for the more seriously inclined players.

3. Catball Eats It All: The game’s character is introduced as ‘an insatiable greedy little creature that wants nothing more than to eat it all!’ This furry ball devours all that comes its way, including the game levels. Although maneuvering seems easy by moving it left or right, one needs to acquire a skill to control its direction, provided one could figure which side the cat is facing. The climax is reached when its archenemy, Dogwall, attempts to consume the cat. Escaping it takes the player to the next level. This game is noted for its ‘bizarre’ graphics and is bound to attract for its oddity than anything else, but definitely worth playing free of cost.
