Front Sight Training Institute Trains Children and Teens in Martial Arts - By: Jayden Adams

Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, located on 550 acres of land in the desert of Nevada (near Las Vegas), may at first seem an unlikely place for children, but the facility has a course programmed just for children in which children and teens are taught key martial arts techniques to defend against attackers. Like adult citizens of the United States, children and teens face danger everyday because they lack experience to deal with a dangerous or potentially dangerous situation.

In a shocking turn of events in Georgia three boys, one 8-year-old and two 9-year-olds, were charged with kidnapping, rape, false imprisonment and sexual assault after an 11-year-old girl. She accused them of attacking her in the woods behind the apartment complex where the children live. Captain Wayne Dennard of the Acworth Police Department north of Atlanta said the girl told officers she was playing with the boys when they lured her into the woods and raped her. “The investigators who are working the case are confident that they have evidence to support the charges,” Captain Dennard said. But the father of one of the accused third-grade boys told The Associated Press that what happened was consensual (Brenda Goodman, NY Times).

Ignatius Piazza created Front Sight after a drive-by shooter attacked his neighborhood more than a decade ago. Although no one was hurt in the incident, the event taught him that all people are potential victims and from then on his passion and single minded goal became to educate the nation that all people have the right to defend themselves, especially the most vulnerable people of our society: children. Ignatius Piazza, at the time of the drive by shooting, had a successful chiropractic practice that he left to found Front Sight in 1996.

If the 11 year old girl had proper training from a place like Front Sight she could have prevented what happened to her. The victim is in no way being blamed here, for children and teens should never have to face the specter of rape. This young girl’s innocence and sense of safety and security have been stolen from her. This shocking incident, as all violence where children are concerned is shocking, is exactly why Ignatius Piazza has such a passion for self-defense education.
