Four steps to a prosperous future - By: Andrew Gray

How do you even start to involve yourself in

starting an internet business if you aren’t an expert?

If you only know how to switch your pc on and off and

can just about work out how to send and open emails,

you don’t have the expertise. Does that mean that you

can’t become successful on the world-wide web and

have an internet business of your own? Not at all!

What you need is guidance in some basic ground-rules!

You will be familiar with the invitations that come

through the post and as spam messages inviting you to

pay large amounts of your hard-earned money to sign

up with them and learn to make millions on the

internet? The usual hope of the entrepreneurs who

market these deals is that a lot of people will sign

up; 10% will ask for their money back; 10% may moan

about it, but do nothing; 50 or 60% will give up the

course half-way through and the remainder will make a

little bit of money and lose interest and only 2%

will make money. That 2% is the success story you will

hear about.

The problem is that many of the techniques being sold

on the internet are already well worn out when you

buy them. The market may well have been pretty much

used up and you are left to try to chase a buying

public that is already losing interest. That’s not

going to make you rich . What will help you make a

good living, however, is to follow these basic ground

rules. You may not end up a millionaire, but it should

make you pull in over $100,000 a year, if you play

things right!

I call these rules the ‘Four Steps to Prosperity’ and

they are very simple.

FIRST of all, you should think in terms of achievable

targets . If you calculate what you need to earn to

make $100,000 a year after your outgoings, it works

out , very crudely, at $2,000 a week. Do you aim to

enjoy a reasonable quality of life? If that’s what

you want, you will not want to work over weekends.

Thus, you need to make $400 a day. That’s quite a bit

. However, it’s not impossible. It depends upon what

you do to attain that level of sales and what it is

you are selling, so,

SECOND, you need to consider what approach to take to

selling on the internet . Are you going to try to sell

one product or service? That would be very narrow as a

business base. Indeed, if you listen to what

successful internet entrepreneurs do, they often

provide services to people who are trying to make new

businesses make money on the internet. The IT

specialist doesn’t need to sell lots of courses on how

to become a millionaire, does he? He’s like the guys

who sold the shovels to the miners in the 1849 Gold

Rush in California. They fed the men who panned for

gold and dug for it. They charged a hefty extra

charge on everything they sold and, when the

prospectors headed home, tails between their legs, the

businessmen were going home with gold in the bank.

THIRD, what you need to do, therefore, is to find a

niche in the market which isn’t being adequately

serviced. Try to sell twenty or fifty

services. If you do, some will do better than others.

Some won’t do much and one or two may do well for a

while and then drop off. Thus , you should think of

lots of things that people want to buy: how to improve

your garden; how to develop a terrific golf drive; how

to lose weight; how to get whiter teeth and so on.

Once you have settled upon what to do, you need to be

able to market these ideas as cheaply as you can,

which takes us to the Fourth Step.

FOURTH, you need to be able to design your own

websites as cheaply as possible. Even buy your own

domain names as cheaply as you can by testing out

options that allow you to pay a small charge for the

first year. Try http://www.one.com for a site that offers you

a domain name and hosting for a minimal sum for the

first year and then learn how to take control by

designing your own website and save the need to pay

expensive IT consultants hundreds of dollars for EACH

SITE! Once you have your domain name, you can build as

many sites as you want. This is a user-friendly ,

short ebook that is packed with illustrations showing

screen-shots of every step in designing your own

website. What’s more is that it’s written by an

ordinary user who won’t snow you with lots of IT

slang, so you won’t get lost! It’s at:
