Foot Tattoos – Beauty And Pain (For A While) - By: Rad Woodeson

Thinking of getting a foot tattoo? Well, you are a little less mainstream than the others who prefer arm, back, and chest tattoos. There are lots of different foot tattoo designs available despite the relative rarity of the applications.

Most people do not pay much attention to their feet. At other times, it might be because our cultures teach us that feet are unclean, what with being so close to the ground. These may be reasons why foot tattoos are relatively uncommon. They do however make for great places to get inked because they do not get as much attention.

One definite reason for the rarity of foot skin art is the increased level of pain. The skin on the foot is rather lacking in subcutaneous fat, and with so little fat, bruising is more common. The sole is a little less sensitive, but the thicker skin can make it hard for the needle and the artist.

When you do get inked on the foot though, be prepared for some special care. Closed footwear and even socks are discouraged, as the friction can cause discomfort and possibly damage to the tattoo. If your job requires you to put on closed shoes, then consider taking time off to allow your foot (or feet) to heal. Go barefoot when you can, and if you will be exposing your feet to sunlight, use sunblock to prevent color loss.

Of course, painful feet mean reduced mobility and limping. This is why it is an even worse idea to get both feet tattooed simultaneously. The less you move, the better, as this can reduce the strain on your feet and make the healing process quicker and more efficient.

On a lighter note, you can find just as many styles of foot tattoo designs as other types of skin art. Check out Biomechanical or simple images like stars and wings. Celtic knots and braids are awesome. Of course, you can get something with a religious or spiritual significance.

Just so you know though – avoid getting your feet tattooed with religious images or names. These may be frowned upon by religious people, as many cultures label the feet as impure. If you must get that kind of foot tattoo, then be ready to explain your choice to those you might offend.

Another set of options for foot tattoo designs involves the size and coverage of the tattoo. Is it something narrow like an anklet or broad enough to cover the top of the foot, or maybe just a small one at the center? Whatever your choice is, be sure to find a specialist in the style you chose, so you can get the best expertise and execution.
