Food Cravings Can Be Overcome - By: Jack_2011

Food cravings are more of a psychological rather than physical addiction, and many of us crave food even when we are not hungry due to boredom, stress, anxiety or tiredness. Cravings for certain foods at certain times can often become “habits”, for example, the need to have several biscuits with your 11am coffee at the office because everyone else is doing it.

But the good news is that food cravings can be overcome, and here are five ways to help you combat them:

Divert Your Attention Elsewhere
Whenever you feel like a craving is coming on, engage in an activity of some kind. It can be anything you fancy – phone a friend, a quick exercise workout, tending the garden, taking the dog for a walk – can help you beat your craving.

Plan Your Cravings Into Your Day
If you know that most of your cravings strike during the evenings, then treat yourself to one portion of what you crave at this time. Alternatively, change your routine during the time that you are likely to experience cravings. For example, if late afternoon is your “craving zone”, arrange to meet up with a friend or go for a workout.

Eat Every Four To Five Hours
The good news is that eating several small meals every day will help to keep your blood sugar levels even so you stay more energetic and alert. Plus, you won’t end up getting too hungry.

Drink Plenty of Water
Sometimes thirst can be mistaken for hunger, so make sure that you drink eight glasses of water every day to prevent dehydration and the empty stomach feeling that makes you reach for the foods that you don’t really need.

Make Food an Ally
If you eat them in moderation, there are no bad foods. If you can visualise food as a friend that provides essential nutrients and nourishment, you can enjoy guilt-free eating!
