Follow These Tips To Train Your New Puppy - By: Brady Colon

Be careful if you are going to introduce your dog to other animals. If you want a second pet, look for one that will be compatible with your current pet. You need to make sure your pets get along so you can be happy as well.

Your success in training your dog hinges on your understanding of your dog and what motivates it. It might take a little while to really get to know your dogs likes, but don't get discouraged. When you are working on training your dog, make sure you have a wide variety of exercises for him to do, and that he is rewarded with a lot of positive reinforcement. Happy dogs tend to perform better, and are easier to train successfully.

Make sure you set your dog up to succeed when you train it from chewing inappropriately. You also need to make sure that you keep your pet away from objects that could hurt him if chewed. Hairbrushes, nylons, and other common household items pose a danger to dogs and can lead to choking and obstructions.

You should be constantly challenging your dog and re-teaching it the tricks you've previously taught it. Even if you are sure your dog is remembering everything you've taught him, having him demonstrate with a little "pop quiz" will keep him sharp.

If your dog has separation anxiety try to slowly break it of that by limiting affection and encouraging others to be a part of its life. It will relieve your pet's stress and anxiety if it has other important human relationships in its life.

Realize that training your dog will take time and patience. If you feel you are not in the state of mood that you can stay patient and understanding, don't even bother trying to have a session at that moment in time, as it will only lead to frustration for you, as well as your dog. Your dogs will respond to patience and will lose interest if they feel you are getting frustrated.

Come up with a phrase that you can teach your puppy during house training. Every time you take him outside, tell him "go potty," (use whatever phrase you have chosen) and this will help him learn to focus and remember what he has gone outside to do.

When training your dog against improper chewing, be sure to set them up for success. Also realize that if a dog has a tendency to chew on non-edible things, it can be a bad habit. You should keep your dog in a safe place, away from items that are dangerous to chew. Things like nylons and hairbrushes could lead to choking or obstruction hazards to dogs.

If you have a large dog, and he likes to stretch out, get the dog a big bed. You can buy large beds for your dog, or crib mattresses also work well. This may be beneficial as you are able to replace covers simply by adding new crib sheets. They're waterproof, too!

If your dog suffers from separation anxiety when you're away, encourage him to bond with other members of the household. If your dog develops relationships with other people, it will help to reduce its dependence on just one person.
