Florida Holidays Are About to Get Bigger - By: Kim d

Florida holidays tend to live up to The Sunshine State’s reputation for entertainment. Whether visitors are experiencing the multitude of theme parks, the numerous excellent eating and drinking opportunities, the sun-kissed beaches or the more esoteric attractions off the beaten track, they are sure to have an exciting time.
The lesser-known attractions include the chilled out Florida Keys, home to bohemians and artists throughout the previous century. As well as the art deco houses, the region is known for its water sports and diving opportunities.
The Everglades are a treasure trove of wildlife, including the manatee and the alligator, and visitors will find a profound sense of wonder on one of the guided tours. They are guaranteed to make sure travellers have a wild time on their Florida holidays!
To the west lies the main coastline, with a number of world-class resorts such as Tampa, Clearwater and St Petersburg. The eastern coast of Florida is also well known for its surfing holidays.

It is the giant theme parks that first leap to mind when people mention Florida holidays though. By far the biggest and most famous is Walt Disney World, which welcomes millions of visitors every year. Its pulling power is closely followed by SeaWorld and the Universal Studios park.
It now looks as if there may be even more opportunities for families seeking theme park thrills and spills on their Florida holidays. There are plans afoot for a giant Legoland theme park to be built in the Sunshine State.

Recently, an announcement by Merlin Entertainments revealed that it has taken over the 145-acre Winter Haven site – currently home to the Cypress Gardens – and plans to pour tens of millions of dollars into development, the aim being to create the largest Legoland in the world, with plans to open its gates next year.

Just a half hour’s drive from Walt Disney World, this news will make Florida holidays even more of an attraction for children. The development is taking place after the runaway success of Legoland California, which last year celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Investors hope that the finished park will be able to rival Disney’s attractions, and they will be anxiously watching the company’s next moves to sharpen up Walt Disney World and the Universal Studios complex, which this year will open a Harry Potter themed park.
There are frequent flights to Florida from the UK and many bargains to be found on the Internet when it comes to cheap hotels or renting holiday villas. It is also worth checking travel agents for last minute deals.
